Discover caravanning chic this summer

Hidden beauty spots in little-explored areas of the country. Funky seaside towns with the best fish and chips you've ever tasted. Elegant market towns packed with antique shops and lovely bistros. Castles, stately homes, fascinating museums, bloomin' beautiful gardens, endless beaches, magical woodland trails...

A British caravan holiday can bring you within easy reach of all these places and more - plus, for those who value their independence, you get to go back to your own private bolthole after each day's fun. No fuss, no stress, just pure relaxation.

Whatever your style, there's a caravan holiday to fit you to a 't', so whether you're into romantic, retro or all mod cons, take a look at these ideas:

Cosy romance in a traditional Romany caravan

Where can you find them? Rural Somerset, the Herefordshire and Worcestershire borders, on the outskirts of the magnificent Brecon Beacons in Walesand horse-drawn travelling caravans around Cumbria and the Lakes!

What's it like to stay in one?

Romany caravans may look slightly frivolous, yet underneath all that decoration there beats a tough and practical heart: warm and snug in the winter, they're cool and fresh in the summer heat.

Most Romany caravans don't have cooking or washing gear aboard, so they'll usually be found on a site where you can build an open fire and/or with more modern facilities nearby, either shared or private to your van.

Mid-century cool in an Airstream trailer

Where can you find them? Near Southwold in sunny Suffolk, the intriguing Isle of Wight, in a Cornish caravanning paradise and gorgeous Norfolk

What's it like to stay in one? For fans of retro chic, this is basically heaven! You'll find all kinds of original vintage touches on board, from Formica table tops to 50s chrome detailing.

In general, most of the Airstreams found at British campsites will have had some respectful updating for the sake of comfort, so no need to worry about lumpy old mattresses or musty curtains!

Luxury caravans with all mod cons

Where can you find them? From Scotland to Sussex, caravan parks and touring locations abound...

What's it like to stay in one? These modern caravans give you all the luxury of home with beautiful locations right on the doorstep, often with the added bonus of sea or lakeside views to die for!

Full kitchens, Wi-Fi, widescreen TVs, double glazing, verandahs - these places are light years beyond the old rough-and-ready style caravan holiday, so even if the British weather is more 'typical' than you might like, your family will still be able to make the most of quality time together. And, with specially adapted accessible caravans and pet-friendly caravans at many of the newer parks, no one need be left out of the fun.
